Shell Game

Shell Game

The wake caused by the passing
Of the yacht
Set the shells bobbing
In the habor.
To my mind they appeared
To be laughing
At the wake, the wake
An unexpected
Opportunity to play.

The sky spread somberly above them,
Matching in color the somber water
In the bowl of the habor.
Yet the somberness
Of the moment did not phase
The shells happy with color,
Blue, red, green.
A wake seldom passed their way.
They rode it, oblivious,
To the scowl encircling them.
